Bio
Zoe is a recognized leader in change and inclusion, with extensive experience driving large-scale programs and campaigns in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Zoe has been a long time advocate for LGBTQ rights in the U.S. Military. In 1993 she publicly came out as lesbian to challenge the military's ban on gay service members, won her 2.5 year legal battle and served openly for thirteen years until her retirement in 2007. She served for 10 years as the Co-Chair of the Board of Directors for Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, providing legal services for those impacted by Don't Ask, Don't Tell and advocating for its repeal. A recognized speaker on the topics of diversity and inclusion, Zoe received her M.B.A. at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and B.S. in Physical Science at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. She completed Villanova’s Lean Six Sigma Black Belt coursework, and is a certified facilitator in Stanford’s Interpersonal Dynamics course. Zoe serves as a San Francisco Library Commissioner and as an Advisory Board member for Vets in Tech, helping transitioning military veterans connect to employment, education and entrepreneurial opportunities. Zoe lives in San Francisco, California with her wife, a Community College administrator. Zoe enjoys running, travel, time with family and occasionally performing stand-up comedy.
