Nick is of modest personality wearing many hats. He works on visual design + email development at Roosevelt University, and digital design and accessibility advocacy partnering with Bravery Media, an Austin-based web agency. Besides making websites and emails more accessible, he helps people find tech conferences that are accessible and accommodating at Confa11y.com and co-organizes A11YChi, a local meetup for those learning more about digital accessibility and inclusive design. Himself being deaf/hard-of-hearing, he serves as a trustee for the Chicago Chapter of the Illinois Association of the Deaf, working to improve the social, educational and economic well-being of deaf/hard-of-hearing citizens in the the Chicagoland. While he was fortunate to grow up immersed in the deaf community, he had difficulty befriending hearing people because of communication barriers. However, as the internet became more common in the late 90s and removed some of the barriers with with email, forums and instant messaging, he realized that he could interact and participate in communities on an equal footing. Since then, Nick loves seeing how the internet technology draws people together, or better yet, when it enables anyone to flourish.
